Maker project store

Publish and sell your projects. People flash the right build for their board in one click, and your issues stop filling up with flashing questions. Publishing is free, sales are coming.

Two ways to publish

From GitHub

Paste the link to your repository. Chipnik picks up its public releases, and every new release becomes a version draft by itself.

Import from GitHub

Files from your computer

No GitHub needed. Upload the .bin files, pick the boards and write the guide step by step.

Upload files

What you get

Builds per variant

Upload a build for each board variant. Chipnik shows people a picture of each variant and flashes the right one.

GitHub releases

Link your repository. New releases become version drafts automatically, you press Publish.

Flash statistics

How many people flashed it, on which boards and variants, and how often it went fine.

README badge

A Flash on Chipnik badge for your README. People click it and land on the Flash button.

Earning

Paid projects are in preparation. Chipnik will take 10% of the price, the rest goes to the author. Publishing free projects stays free.

How earning works

Moderation

First publication

A moderator checks every new project once before it goes public.

Version path

Import or upload, then a draft that only you see, then you press Publish. The version goes out at once. If the project already has a stable version, the new stable one first spends 24 hours in beta: people who chose beta get it right away, everyone else a day later.

From a release to a flashed board

Open a demo project
  1. Release

You publish release v1.0.0 on GitHub with the .bin files and chipnik.json.

  2. Draft and publish

Chipnik imports it as a version draft. You check it and press Publish.

  3. Board choice

Someone opens the page and picks their variant, for example the CYD with two USB ports.

  4. Install

They press Flash, and the build for that variant is written to the board.

Questions

How much does it cost?

Publishing and flashing are free.

Do I need GitHub?

No. GitHub is only needed to pick up releases automatically. You can upload the files from your computer.

Which boards are supported?

ESP32 of all kinds, Arduino Uno, Nano and Mega, Pro Micro and Leonardo, STM32 Blue Pill and Black Pill, Raspberry Pi Pico, nRF52 boards with UF2 and Digispark.

Can the code be closed?

Yes. You choose the license, and it is shown on the project page.

Can I edit or delete a project?

Yes, from your dashboard. New versions go out without another review.

My project is already in the catalog. How do I get it?

Sign in with the GitHub account that owns the repository, open the project page and press “This is my project”. Chipnik checks through GitHub that the repository is yours and moves the project to your profile. A repository of an organization is handed over by a moderator: write to support.

Describing builds in a release

Put a chipnik.json file next to the .bin files in your GitHub release. A release with an ESP Web Tools manifest.json also works when the project has one board.
