    Checked

Chipnik stores the files of version 2.7.2, published November 5, 2026. The site signs each build, and the flasher compares every file with its checksum before writing it.

A moderator reviewed the project before its first publication, November 5, 2026.

Whether the device works after flashing: the flasher cannot see that.

  • Built and worksNot confirmed yet. No build reports with a working device yetWhat this means

Chipnik does not build the devices itself. It is the word of the people who did, with their photos.

Macless Haystack makes your own tracking tag from an ESP32. The board sends Bluetooth beacons in the Find My format, nearby Apple devices report where they heard it, and you see the position on a map in the project's web app, through your own small server instead of a Mac. Original project by dchristl on GitHub, AGPL-3.0. Chipnik hosts the release binaries unchanged so you can flash them from the browser.

You need an Apple ID and a computer or home server for the Docker container; the project README walks through the setup and how to put your own key on the board. Use it only to find things that belong to you.

Firmware files come from the v2.7.2 release.

After flashing

  • The board restarts by itself when flashing is done.
  • If nothing happens, press the RST (EN) button once.
